We rocked on PURPLE DAY in Abuja
Purple day in Abuja was celebrated at the GARKI MODEL MARKET in Garki 2, Abuja. The management of the market allowed us a large space in their car park. We set camp and organised to make as much impact as possible. There was a huge yellow banner with the message tied to a van. DJ capstone was on the deck spinning some great music to attract the audience.

We started by wetting the appetite of shoppers. They were treated to amazing dance routines by two male dance crews in Abuja. These were the ‘the lords fun academy’ and ‘sofly’.
The boys rocked and had a lot of fun entertaining the crowd.
We also had the honour of ‘PinkZee’ fashion studio. Three models performed a catwalk show of purple designs from the company. This was well received and fun.

Toba and Femi are two actors in Abuja. We asked them to prepare a shocking demonstration of someone having a seizure. They dramatised how the patient should be looked after and specifically highlighted that the foaming saliva from the mouth of some sufferers was not contagious. This particular point was emphasised and translated to the audience in different languages. I sincerely believe we got the message across to the audience. The seizure attack was filmed by TV (HEALTH TV AFRICA, ITV and AIT). The clip was shown on the news later in the day. It showed Dr Ogungbo comforting the patient and wiping off the saliva without care. This hopefully made a powerful statement and resonated with the TV audience.

DHS (Diabetes, Hypertension help Society) deserves special mention. The organisation came out strongly to support the purple day event. They pitched camp with us and set about performing free health checks for the people. Blood pressure checks, weight, calculation of BMI (BODY MASS INDEX) and blood sugar measurements were done. This actually attracted a large crowd enabling us to also deliver the purple day message.

There was food and drink (fruit punch) for people. A huge purple cake was baked by Ada. This chocolate and cream centred masterpiece was tasty and went down well. There were chocolates and sweets for children. Muyiwa Oguntoye, a seasoned photographer was also on hand to take pictures on the day. The stunning images attached to this report are mostly his work.
The DHS stand drew a crowd. Right, Dr Ogunbayo of Health TV Africa talking to the press.
The following people and organisations supported PURPLE DAY in Abuja, Nigeria in 2012 and need to be congratulated for helping us remove ignorance and perhaps in a small way improve the lot of sufferers. Full information can be obtained online, please follow the links.
Novartis: pharmaceutical company was represented by Pharmacist Obinna. The company gave out purple t-shirts to people attending the event.

Health TV Africa Limited is a health media communications firm registered to practice in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Despite the fact that there are lots of hospitals and primary health care facilities, yet the rate of morbidity and child mortality is increasing on a daily basis. There is a dearth of information about basic healthy living, which cuts across the rich and the poor, the literate and the illiterate. One very important aspect of health care delivery that has been relegated and patently ignored is HEALTH EDUCATION. This is further complicated by the lack of communication skills of most health practitioners.
Health TV Africa Limited embarks on health related communication projects for dissemination of health information through documentaries, dramas, advert, campaigns and mass media consulting via different avenues. Our focus is centred on increasing the level of knowledge available to the entire populace about health subjects in order to empower them with basic healthy living skills.
